Rich Didn't Take Long...

to begin the official downfall of Michigan for at least the next few years. Justin Boren, Michigan's starting offensive lineman last season, has decided to transfer from Michigan to, get this, OHIO STATE!!!! That is unprecedented. Never before has a Michigan football player transfered to O.S.U.

What did he say as the reason to transfer: "family values have eroded" under Rich Rodriguez. Boren, a sophomore student, will have to sit out the 2008 season (NCAA Rules) but will play (and start) in 2009. What a coup!!!

What does this mean? How bad does this look for Michigan and Rodriguez? It's one thing to have a player leave because he doesn't fit into the new system (Ryan Mallett), but to leave the team because the 'family' is broken, that is amazing. At least Mallett didn't go to Ohio State. And Boren isn't a bench-rider hiding behind an All-American; he started all 13 games last season. Who leaves a team when they start? NOBODY!

And not just a starter, a true Michigan Man. His dad was coached under Bo Schembechler. He grew up bleeding Maize and Blue. Rich Rodriguez was able to destroy that family in only a few weeks time?

Johnny Damon to the Yanks is tame compared to Boren going to the Bucks. This made the greatest rivalry in sports even better, or bitter.

Just how good is Justin Boren? In 2006, he was recruited as the number 1 player by his position. He was probably a top 10, maybe top 5, player overall. Last year he started alongside now Miami Dolphin Jake Long. Which side do you think Mike Hart ran to the most. Working in Pickerington, I've heard about him leaving Michigan and possibly defecting to OSU for the last month. I think defecting is the appropriate term for a move like this. He's good. He's real good. His brother Zach is going to be a senior linebacker at Pickerington Central this fall. He has already committed to OSU. Terrelle Pryor is going to have a great offensive line in two years. GO BUCKS!
